Salvador Allende était un président charismatique et idéaliste du Chili qui cherchait à apporter à son peuple un monde juste et libre.  Il a gouverné pendant 1 000 jours, de novembre 1970 jusqu'à son renversement par un coup d'État militaire soutenu par la CIA en septembre 1973.

Salvador Allende croyait en la justice sociale et en l'accès à la culture

• Il voulait améliorer les conditions de vie des travailleurs chiliens.
• Il a contribué à la mise en place de divers programmes au Chili pour améliorer la santé de la population et favoriser l'accès à l'éducation.
• Sous sa présidence, l'une des mesures les plus populaires a été la distribution de lait pour les enfants.

Allende était un démocrate

• Il croyait qu'un changement social révolutionnaire pouvait être obtenu par des moyens pacifiques.
• Son gouvernement a scrupuleusement respecté la liberté d'expression, y compris celle de ses opposants.

Allende était anti-impérialiste

• Selon lui, "le Chili doit conquérir son indépendance économique" : "Le Chili doit conquérir son indépendance économique".
• Il pensait que sans indépendance économique, il ne pouvait y avoir de véritable indépendance politique.
• Allende a été acclamé pour son discours à l'Assemblée générale des Nations unies en 1972, dans lequel il mettait en garde les États contre le pouvoir croissant des multinationales.

Salvador Allende was a charismatic and idealistic president of Chile who sought to bring his people a just and free world.  He governed for 1,000 days, from November 1970 until his overthrow by a CIA-backed military coup in September 1973.

Salvador Allende believed in social justice and access to culture

• He wanted to improve the living conditions of Chilean workers.
• He helped set up various programs in Chile to improve the health of the population and promote access to education.
• During his presidency, one of the most popular measures was the distribution of milk for children.

Allende was a democrat

• He believed that revolutionary social change could be achieved through peaceful means.
• His government scrupulously respected freedom of expression, including that of his opponents.

Allende was anti-imperialist

• According to him: "Chile must acquire economic independence".
• He believed that without economic independence, there could be no real political independence.
• Allende was acclaimed for his speech to the UN General Assembly in 1972, in which he warned states against the growing power of multinationals.

Allende's vision was internationalist and Latin Americanist.

• Solidarity with the peoples of the Global South.
• He dreamed of a united and sovereign Latin America, whose territory and peoples are no longer plundered and exploited by foreign interests.
• Salvador Allende supported Latin American integration projects, as well as political refugees from other countries in the Americas.
